Welcome to David's Great Adventure, a digital impression of David Friedrich's life. In this binary version of a portfolio, David will tell you a little about his career and his life as a musician and composer, share his experience and current work as a techno-philosopher, and show how he has changed the world as a sound and media artist through his projects.

David was born in 1987 and raised in a small town in the heart of Germany. In 2004, he began his career as a musician, composer, and audio engineer, leading to numerous concerts and studio recordings. In addition to his work as a musician, he completed an apprenticeship as a nurse in 2009 and worked in intensive care units across several hospitals between 2010 and 2018. Since 2015, he has dedicated himself to sound studies and science and technology studies (STS); he is the first in his working-class migrant family to attend university. In 2018, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Musicology from Humboldt University of Berlin, followed by a master’s degree in Media Studies, summa cum laude, from the same institution in 2021. Despite battling dyslexia, David was awarded the prestigious Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium) at Humboldt University in 2020 for outstanding performance. Since 2022, he has been a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia, investigating sound and hearing through the neurotechnology of the cochlear implant; his doctoral research is funded by a prestigious scholarship. Alongside his academic career, he invented the Theremin for the Deaf, an instrument that produces sound without acoustics, and created the Naughty Box, a practice-led project exploring electromagnetic hearing and the politics of neurotechnology. From 2016 to 2019, David worked for the broadcast show Fritz Unsigned as a social media manager and as a freelance radio journalist. He also designed the app Tour It Yourself, which enables musicians to book and manage concerts independently. Between 2021 and 2022, David was an award-winning creative project manager at Wildstyle (Dresden, Germany), working for clients such as ZEISS and Fujitsu. Finally, and most importantly, David has been the proud father of a spirited and hilarious daughter since 2014.
